Overview
Forest Quest is a team-based scavenger hunt with a twist. Instead of a simple list of items to find, teams must solve riddles and complete challenges related to camping and survival skills to earn points. The game encourages exploration, teamwork, and the application of practical outdoor skills in a fun and engaging way.
Objective
To score the most points by solving riddles, finding hidden items, and completing survival challenges within a set time limit.
Number of Players: 4-20 (divided into teams of 2-5 players)
Materials Needed
- Riddle cards and challenge descriptions
- Timer or stopwatch
- Items for various challenges (e.g., compass, rope, matches)
- Prizes for the winning team (optional)
Setup
- Preparation: Before the game, the organizer creates riddle cards and challenge descriptions related to camping and survival skills. These can include tasks like building a small shelter, identifying edible plants, or using a compass to find a specific location.
- Item Placement: Hide items around the campsite or designated game area that teams will need to find as part of their challenges.
- Team Formation: Divide players into teams and give each team a starting riddle card.
How to Play
- Start the Quest: Teams start by solving their first riddle, which leads them to a location or item.
- Complete Challenges: Once at the location, teams complete a survival skill challenge. Successfully completing the challenge earns the team points and their next riddle card.
- Strategic Choices: Some riddle cards may offer a choice between two challenges—teams must decide which challenge they believe they can complete more quickly or efficiently.
- Bonus Items: Hidden throughout the game area are bonus items that teams can collect for extra points. These items should be challenging to find and require keen observation.
Scoring
- Completing a challenge: 10 points
- Bonus items: 5 points each
- Special challenges (more difficult): 20 points
Winning
The team with the most points at the end of the game time limit wins. In case of a tie, a final tiebreaker challenge can determine the winner.
Safety and Fair Play
- Teams must stay within the designated game area.
- All challenges should be designed with safety in mind, suitable for the age and skill level of the players.
- Teams should carry a whistle or other signaling device in case they need assistance.
Adaptability
Forest Quest can be adapted for different environments (beach, park, backyard) and modified to suit various themes or focus areas (e.g., environmental education, first aid skills).
This game not only makes camping more fun but also teaches valuable skills in an engaging way. Whether playing with family or friends, Forest Quest is sure to be a memorable part of any camping trip.
